Where is the boat based?
Hermit of Hythe is based at Lymington Yacht Haven on berth A14, a short distance
from the marina office.
Is there parking at the marina?
Yes, there is plenty of free parking at the marina for our customers.
What facilities are at the marina?
Hermit of Hythe customers are welcome to use the award-winning facilities at Lymington Yacht Haven marina. The Haven bar is also on site for excellent post charter drinks and we are a 10 minute walk from many of Lymington’s pubs and town centre amenities.
What do charter costs include?
For fishing trips, the cost of the charter includes all equipment, tackle, bait and as much, or as little, tuition as you would like. Also included on a full-day exclusive charter is a full English breakfast. On a half-day you have the choice of bacon (or veggie option) rolls or home-made cakes.
For other types of charters, we will agree the content on booking and the prices charged will be all-inclusive. You will receive an email confirming all details of your charter.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
We do ask customers to pay a deposit by BACS (Bankers Automated Clearing Services).
This will be returned in full in the following circumstances:
The skipper cancels the trip either as the result of illness, mechanical or electrical breakdown of the vessel or external factors beyond our control such as poor weather conditions.
The skipper decides whether or not the prevailing weather conditions make the trip possible.
The customer cancels the charter giving at least 28 days notice.
The customer cancels the charter for any reason within 28 days of the scheduled trip and the skipper is able to secure another booking for that day.
Please note that a cancellation period of less than 28 days where the skipper is unable to secure another booking will result in100% of the full charter fee being charged.
How do I pay the balance?
We prefer to receive payment of the balance in cash on the day of the trip but we also accept payment via BACS.
What are the food options?
We make and prepare all food ourselves, so please let us know if you have any dietary requirements and we will be able to tailor your food accordingly, including vegetarian or gluten free etc.
Our standard options are:
Full English Breakfast - Locally sourced bacon, sausages, eggs, and beans served with bread rolls
Home-made cakes and afternoon tea - A various selection of home-made cakes is available and for an afternoon tea we offer finger sandwiches or rolls, scones with cream and jam and a selection of cake.
Tea, coffee and hot drinks are all inclusive on your trip.
How many people can you take?
Hermit of Hythe is licensed to take up to six people. For Fishing charters the prices quoted are for four people fishing at any one time, which is the optimum number to avoid tangled lines. If you have a group where 5 or 6 people wish to fish there would be a additional charge. Please call us to discuss your requirements.
Can you take people with disability?
We will always try to cater for all needs and it is best to speak with us to check we can accommodate your requirements, as the boat’s structural layout has limitations for wheelchairs and some physical restrictions.
Do you cater for special occasions?
Absolutely! We a more than happy to work with you to design your own bespoke charter.
Are dogs welcome?
We welcome four-legged crew members; however, you know your dog best and we suggest you consider the length of time off-shore, how your dog responds to new environments, engine noises and the motion of the boat to ensure you and your dog both enjoy your day out on the water. Please do not leave dogs in your car.
Do you take individuals?
Yes, we do take individuals on full-day charters but unlike exclusive charters, you will be fishing alongside other individual anglers who you may not know.
What time will my trip start?
Our berth is not restricted by tides, so start times are flexible.
Does the boat have lifejackets?
'Hermit of Hythe' complies with the safety requirements set by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and is fully equipped with lifejackets (including those for children and dogs) life-raft, lifebelts, flares, VHF radio etc.
Does the boat have a toilet?
Yes, the boat is equipped with a fully functional toilet (head).
What if the weather is bad on the day of my trip?
The skipper will make the final decision on whether you trip will take place. This will be determined based on weather forecasts and sea state and your safety and comfort will always be the priority. If your trip does not take place because of inclement weather, you will be given the option of re-booking your trip or we will return your deposit to you.
Is there heating on the boat?
Yes. The saloon cabin will be quite snug even on the coolest of days!
Is there shade on the boat?
Yes, there is the indoor saloon cabin and the flybridge also has a Bimini cover.
What should I wear?
Even in summer it can get chilly on the water, so we recommend wearing several layers that you can add to or remove and bring a waterproof jacket in case of rain or sea spray. If it is hot, don’t forget headwear and maximum protection sun-screen and thermal hats, gloves and scarves if you are out with us in the colder months.
Wear flat shoes or trainers with some grip.
What sort of fish will I catch?
Species vary during the year, but likely catches are bream, rays, conger eel, bass, pout, pollock, plaice, cod, mackerel, dogfish, tope etc.
Can I take home any fish I catch?
There are restrictions around some species and the skipper will give you advice around the ones you can take, but yes you can take certain fish and we’ll be happy to prepare it for you and give you advice on how to cook it.
We want to sightsee, where can we go?
Lymington Yacht Haven is directly opposite Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, meaning close viewing of The Needles, Hurst Castle, The Solent and Southampton Water, Lymington River, Beaulieu River and the beautiful south coast are all possible and ideal for photography and exploring the area from the water.
Can you pick up from anywhere else?
Please contact us if you would like to consider boarding 'Hermit' from another location. Marinas such as Yarmouth in the Isle of Wight are common pick up points, but tide times and distance from our own port may affect our ability to accommodate these requests or incur additional fuel or berthing costs.
Can I bring alcohol?
Alcohol is permitted on board, but customers are asked to drink responsibly.
We recommend you eat at least an hour before your trip, which helps prevent motion sickness.
If you are prone to seasickness or motion sickness, we recommend you take anti-seasickness medication prior to your trip and have the medication with you during your trip, though please check the best options for you with a pharmacist as some seasickness tablets have contraindications with other medications.
Damage to the vessel and equipment including fishing gear caused by negligence of charter guests will be charged at cost.
